Export or delete a family
Admins can download a plaintext export of care data, or permanently erase the whole family. Both actions live in Settings. Export needs an unlocked device; deletion cannot be undone.
Export family data
- Unlock the family on this phone or computer (you must be able to read care data here).
- Open Settings.
- Find Legal & privacy (or the export section) and tap Export family data.
- Confirm. Carakin decrypts on this device and builds a ZIP of JSON files.
- Save or share the ZIP with your phone's share sheet / browser download.
Plaintext outside Carakin:
Once exported, the ZIP is no longer protected by Carakin's end-to-end encryption. Store it
like any sensitive health backup (encrypted drive, password manager vault, etc.).
What the ZIP includes
- Care-related JSON for the family (schedules, responses, profile metadata, and similar records Carakin can decrypt on this device).
- Not included: document and photo binaries. Download those one-by-one from People → Docs (and profile photos from each kin profile) if you need the files themselves.
- Items that cannot be decrypted on this device may be skipped; the app notes how many were skipped when the export finishes.
Delete a family
Only admins can delete. This permanently removes profiles, medications, calendar entries, encrypted files, recovery backups, encryption keys, invites, and join requests for that family.
- Open Settings.
- On Android: open the Danger zone, optionally read Privacy & data policy, then tap Start family deletion....
- On web: open the danger / delete section and start Delete family.
- Type the exact family name when asked, and complete any extra confirmation phrases.
- Confirm. The family and its data are erased from Carakin's servers.
Cannot be undone.
Export first if you need a copy. Deleting one family does not delete your Google/Microsoft
account or other families you belong to.
